"Mr. Joe" Abshire, a ship inspector, died Friday at University
Medical Center. He was 79. Mr. Abshire was born in Kaplan and lived in New
Orleans for forty four years before moving back to Kaplan. He graduated
Kaplan High School. He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War.
He was a member of the Boy Scouts of America for 67 years. Survivors include
a sister, Helen Hebert of Fort Worth, Texas. A funeral will be held Tuesday
at 10 am at Vincent Funeral Home, 300 N. Eleazor Ave., Kaplan. Visitation
will be Monday from 2 to 10 pm and Tuesday from 8 to 10 am. Burial will
be in Kaplan Cemetery.
