Crocodile Speech
Times-Picayune, Gretna Picayune December 15, 2002

Immaculata High School juniors Erica Roddy, right, and Stephanie Bruce team up for their Speech I demonstration. Roddy, who has been volunteering at [the] Audobon Zoo for two years, dressed Bruce in articles representing a crocidile. The skin on the table is from Egypt. The armor on Bruce's back represented the crocodile's backbone; the heating pad illustrates how the soak in heat from the sun. The flipper is similar to a crocodile's webbed feet, and the paddle on her back represents the tail that propels the reptile through the water. The goggles represent transparent eyelids; the periscope is for the eyes; and the snorkel shows how crocodiles breathe underwater through their noses. The skin is waterproof like Bruce's rain jacket, and the tongs represent teeth meant for grabbing and ripping, not chewing.
